This is a picture of me taken with my new phone at the JCR Pub (the pub in my hall). Just sippin’ some Worthingtons.

Hey,
I had Wednesday off, so I went down to the phone store to get a cell phone (mobile), finally. It’s crazy – after living so long in Canada without a cell phone, I’d become used to just getting a hold of people on their phones, but here – I’m so far away from my room to use my phone, and it also costs money to make local calls, so no one uses them. There’s also barely any payphones, and also EVERYONE HAS A MOBILE. People got annoyed with me because they could never get in contact with me. So I succumbed and got my first mobile phone.
It’s nice. It’s a Sony phone, which I was a little iffy on, but two of the guys here had the phone and said it was great. A card adapter came with it, so I can actually plug the card into my camera and use it if I need to which is neat. It’s got a very functional 2.0 mp camera, so if I forget my digital camera, I can still take loads of pics!
Anyways, after class on Wed (in which I forgot to bring my notes, so it was hard to keep up with the prof), I had Rugby practice. It was a good work out, but I wasn’t really on the ball and wasn’t playing to well. I guess we don’t all have our good days. Afterwards I did a little homework and went to the pub to socialize where the photo of me was taken. I played some pool and then watched the ‘Fantastic Four,’ with some other medical students. It was a crappy action movie based on the comic book. A waste of 2hrs – I thought it would get better, but the plot seemed to go nowhere. Apparently they’re filming 2 more movies too! Oh well, I hope they’re better.
Today was my usual long day. I spent the full 3hrs in my biochem lab because my partner and I kept messing up our readings on the spectrophotometer and the graph printer. We also kept knocking over the cuvettes after we had prepared them. Then we had to spend some time with the lecturer to figure out what the 12 graphs we had meant! Basically we were examining the mitochondria of 4 patients to see what type of mitochondrial defect they had, but it involves understanding the workings of the Electron Transport Chain. Blah, blah, blah – have I confused you yet? Well good for you if you understand. It took me a session with some medics in my hall tonight to figure the results out. Then, in the afternoon I had my usual Epidemiology, which I always complain about, and of course we were in the stuffy room, where the heat just put me right out, it was sooo hard to concentrate… but I survived. Went to the grocery store and bought some wine for the formal tomorrow night.
Tomorrow: Anatomy lab, formal dinner (Carrot & Coriander Soup,Beef Olives, Individual Honeyed Parsnip & Potato Pie, Country Mixed Vegetables, New Potatoes, Chocolate Blizzard). Band playing at night at the medic’s pub in the Bristol Royal Infirmary (yes, the medical students have a pub in the hospital!)
Saturday: Wills is having a James Bond Night (theme night, dress up a James Bond characters, cheap martinis shaken not stirred, bad guys, laser tag, etc).
Sunday: Off to Southampton with Bristol Medic’s Hockey – away game, should be fun, hope we win!
If you need my number, send me an email and I’ll let you know it!
Let you know how the weekend goes,
-Pete
